If you hate your smile because of a broken tooth, a weak tooth, or a tooth that simply doesn’t look like the rest of your natural teeth, then you have options for restoring your smile. You don’t have to settle for a smile you want to hide. In some cases, your dentist may recommend restoring your smile with a dental crown.
A crown is a cap that your dentist places over your tooth to restore the appearance and function of your natural tooth. Therefore, a crown will cover the entirety of the visible portion of your tooth, restoring your beautiful smile and giving you the confidence to show it off!
What Does a Crown Do?
- Protect a weak tooth
- Restore a broken tooth
- Cover a misshapen or discolored tooth
- Protect and cover a tooth after root canal treatment
- Attach a bridge
- Cover a dental implant
- Replace a filling when there’s not enough tooth left
Typically, crowns are made from porcelain, ceramic, composite resin, metal alloys, or a combination of materials. Since the purpose of the dental crown is to strengthen your tooth and restore its natural-looking appearance, your dentist at Chicago Veneers will work closely with you to ensure that the color of the crown is matched to the rest of your teeth, and that the crown has the strength it needs to function effectively.
How Are Crowns Placed?
Generally, it takes two dental visits for your dentist to place your oral crown. During your first visit, your dentist at Chicago Veneers will prepare your tooth for the crown. After this, your dentist will take an impression of your tooth so that the crown will fit snugly on top of it. While the crown is getting made in the lab, you will be given a temporary crown. It usually takes less than two weeks to make the crown, and when it is ready, your dentist will cement the crown in place.
You don’t have to live with a smile you hate. We understand how important it is to look and feel good. At Chicago Veneers, we are devoted to helping you achieve just that. We’ll give you a smile you’ll want to show off!
